Interview with Self-Hatred, Death Doom Metal Band from Czech Republic

Interview with Self-Hatred, Death Doom Metal Band from Czech Republic

Self-Hatred is Death Doom Metal Band from Plzen, Czech Republic. They’re Štěpán Eret - Bass, Michal "Datel" Rak - Drums, Aleš Vilingr - Guitars, Pavel Janouškovec - Guitars, Michal Šanda - Keyboards and Kaťas - Vocals. Michal Šanda gave us some information about Self-Hatred. Check it out.

Tell us about Self-Hatred?
It is almost 3 years since we are officialy known as Self-hatred. Aleš met Felis and then asked me to join them. I always had quite similar musical attitude as Ales (Ales, Stepan and I use to play in Stollice), so it was easy for me to say yes to his offer. It was the same for Stepan. Even though Datel played in other 2 bands, he decided to reveal his mastery in SH. Then we searched for another guitarist and Paja is the one. And finally we have Katas here, who might be the shortest in our band, but his voice is massive as he was born to growl.

What are lyrical themes of Self-Hatred?
I would suggest to buy our CD and let everybody to discover all the lyrics secrets himself. Basically it is about what we experienced or about the way we see the life arround us through fears, universe, love.
It is the way most of the people think like. We just transfer the thoughts into the music.

What are your influences?
Well we all support bands we like and listen to. But we try to do the music without being affected by other bands.  What we follow is the era, which is the 90`s. We do not try to sound like someoneelse. But there will always be someone who might say – You sound like this and that and you are copying what already been done. But it is easy. You either like what you hear or not. We all have different perception and I respect that.

Who are Your Favorite Czech Metal Bands?
I can not speak for others here. For me it is Master's Hammer, SIlent Stream Of Godless Elegy, Dissolving Of Prodigy, Krabathor, Mythopoeia, Sorath , Et Moriemur, Somnus Aeternus, Brutally Deceased, Quercus.

Interview with Self-Hatred, Death Doom Metal Band from Czech Republic
How did you choose the cover artwork for "Theia"?
It was idea of Marek Pisl, who created the artwork.
How were the songs written?
Mostly it is Ales and then me who come with the idea or a song draft. And then we all work on it. Nothing extra special beyond it. Katas does all the lyrics.

How did the recording process go?
I can not say a bad word. It took us roughly 14 days. 7 days out of that was the recording itself. Honza Kapak (Hellsound studio) is a professional. He works hard and is able to get 100% out of you. He is a nice person to speak with not only about music. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and are looking forward to March. We will be recording our second album at Hellsound.

What are your future plans?
We do not have big plans. As we are not from the same city and even the same country, our regime is  unconventional. We focus on the album recording. Just finishing the new songs.
There are some great gigs ahead of us in 2017. If all goes well, there will be chance to share the stage with some great bands. Let's see what the future brings to all of us.
Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
Malta and Brazil, because it is nice wheather there. England, because the wheather there is made for doom metal.
What bands would you like to play alongside?
I can not speak for others again. I wish for Skepticism, Clouds, My Dying Bride
Any last words?

This is the debut album by Canadian progressive metal band Fractal Cypher.

1st track, Lost. Changeable music composition, from Djent to slow and from Djent to slow. Breakdown parts made this song more Modern. 2nd track, Endless Circle. The intro continued from “Lost.” This’s song is rather Power Metal and also Classical element, Electronic element and Progressive. All in one on this song. 3rdtrack, Shining A While. This song is very excellent and very clean, but his vocals rather like Matt Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold). A slow progressive song.

4th track, Prison Planet. With some Middle Eastern influences, this song tell about a planet but like prison. Groove riffs and Midle Eastern. 5th track, Imminent Extinction. The Guitar Solo on this song is very Insane. Combination of Progressive, Electronic and Groove Metal. 6th track, Final Abode. Like Avnged Sevenfold and a little bit Djent like Mesuggah. I think it’s AvengDjent Sevenfold.

7th track, Awakening. No Djent, but this song is cooling down after our ears hear Great tracks previously. 8thtrack, Idle Words. It’s madness song, great combination between Classic Progressive Rock and Modern Progressive Metal. 9th track, The Ghost Of Myself. Progressive Power Metal ending song. The Guitar lick is so catchy and this’s excellent ending.

Fractal Cypher combined Djent, Progressive, Power, and Symphonic. All in one on this Album.

Interview with Absens, Progressive Metal Band from Brazil

Brazillian Underground Progressive Metal Band, Absens. They’re gave us some information. Check it out.

Tell us about Absens?
We're a progressive metal band with extreme elements from Porto Alegre, south of Brazil. We aim to lead our listeners through various extremes in music, either with blast beats, growls or melodic riffs and clean vocals.

We got together in the beginning of 2015 and in June of 2016 we released our first EP, Embrace of the Waters. Our line up consists of:

Cezar Tortorelli - Vocals and Guitars,

Fernando Spalter – Guitars,
Guilherme Bettini - Bass and Vocals.

What are lyrical themes of Absens?
We discuss life and human condition. Absens means "absent" in latin and, in Embrace of the Waters, we exlore the concept of "absence" in the personal and social level.

What are your influences?
We are highly influenced by bands such as Opeth, Periphery, Leprous, Gojira, Ne Obliviscaris, The Faceless, Tesseract, Devin Townsend and many others from this new "prog" scene.

Who are Your Favorite Brazilian Metal Bands?
Here in south of Brazil with have many great established bands such as Hibria, Daydream XI, Luís Kalil, In Torment, Scelerata, Krisiun and It's All Red and some great new born bands like Atlas of Conscience, Weakless Machine and Save Our Souls.
Outside the southern kingdom, there are some great other bands like Angra, Sepultura, Project 46, Torture Squad and Jack the Joker.
How did you choose the cover artwork for "Embrace of the Waters"?
Our producer (Tiago Masseti from Daydream XI) is also a graphic designer. As he knew the entire concecpt, we gave him freedom to create his best work possible.

How were the songs written?
We first built the songs' structure with preliminary drum lines and the main guitar riffs. Then we created the bass and vocal lines, along with the complementary guitar work and strings. When we began the pre-production, we reviewed the songs strcuture with our producer, and the drum lines were rewritten by Bruno Giordano (Daydream XI).

How did the recording process go?
It was the first time that we recorded something, and it was very challenging! Besides the difficulties, we had a great time, we learned a lot by being creative under some pressure and time limits.
We recorded guitars and bass digitally at Daydream XI's Cube and vocals were recorded at Monostereo Studio, both in Porto Alegre. Drums were programmed. We re-amped guitar at Dry House Studios, Porto Alegre, with Renato Osorio (Hibria) and bass at Black Stork Studios, Caxias do Sul, with Benhur Lima, who also mixed the EP. Finally, we mastered with Brendan Duffey at Norcal Studios, São Paulo.

What are your future plans?
We're currently working on some new compositions for our first full lenght and trying to book some concerts here in Brazil. We are still at our baby steps, slowly learning to walk.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
We would like to visit every corner of the world! That's not possible now, but we hope really soon to tour in America, Europe and Asia.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
It would be a dream coming true if we could share the stage with any of our influences. Playing alongside with other bands such as Earthside, Animals as Leaders, Native Construct, Zombie Frogs would be sick too!

Any last words?
We would like to thanks BDP Metal for this interview and the review of Embrace of the Waters, we are truly honored and happy that our music have reached so far!
Please, like us on Facebook, subscribe on Youtube, follow us on Spotify and support us at Bandcamp and iTunes!

Metal Illustrator: Interview with Titian Graphics Art

Metal Illustrator: Interview with Titian Graphics Art

Welcome to Metal Illustrator. This’s interview between Me and Tiziano (Titian Graphics Art). Check it out.
by Titian Graphics Art
Please give a brief introduction of yourself, your career and your work?
Hi, my name is Tiziano Spigno, and i live and work in Italy. I started my career working as publishing designer for several magazines and advertising. I also worked as videomaker and creative for commercials and videoclip.
In the last five years, I decided to focus on my musical career (I’m a vocal coach and singer for Lucky Bastardz), and so I created “Titian Graphic Arts” and focused my work as a graphic/video creative only for musicians, creating cover artworks, booklets, packaging, merchandise, advertising and lyric videos.

by Titian Graphics Art
When did realize you wanted to make a career out of illustrating?
I’ve always been curious about art at 360°: music, cinema, video, photography and illustration. I spent my teenage’s afternoons shooting shorts with my friends, singing and writing songs with my first band and drawing posters to promote our gigs. It was a pre-internet era: no smartphones (no mobile phones at all), Dos powered computers (yes, I am THAT old) and so you really needed to develope skills and unleash fantasy to reach your goals. I think I never “decided” to make a career out of my passions, it was a natural process: doing something because you love to, until others like what you do and ask you to do that thing for them too. Cool!

by Titian Graphics Art
What difficulties have you faced in transitioning into becoming a professional illustrator?
The most difficult thing is to really believe that you can live earning money from what you love to do the most. Most of the people  are happy to work to survive and limit their true passions in what they call "hobbies." For some time, I chose to stay in my "comfort zone" too, working as a graphic designer for magazines that I did not appreciate, just because I was guaranteed a salary while in free time I was dedicating myself to my music and vocal coaching. But, as my work as a vocal coach and singer was getting bigger, I realized that I needed to focus all of my time to what I loved the most. So I took a shot in dark, left my job and focused only on music and illustrations for musicians. It’s not an easy way, you need to reinvent yourself everyday, but beeing honest to yourself it’s the only way to make things right in the end.

by Titian Graphics Art
What do you like the most about illustrating?
I love the idea to have no limits, let my immagination fly and make my visions become real. I like to share my emotions: music, movie, visual arts, they are all paths to share your inner world with others.

What do you like the least about it?
Sometimes customers are rude, they don’t share your vision, think that “work with photoshop and illustrator” makes all easy and fast. And, by the way, there’s a lot of wannabees out there that work underpaid providing awful works. It’s a tough world, but I believe that quality pays, in the end.

Who are some of your main artistic inspirations and why?
Talking about cover artists, I love the work of Gustavo Sazes, for the strenght and amazing use of colors and the powerful visions of Felipe Machado Franco. I also love Frank Frazetta for his Conan’s illustrations, Frank Miller, and Magritte, the first artist in my life that shows me fantasy has no limits.

What is the best advice you have ever received regarding your artwork and career?
Do what is right for you, and not what you think is right.

What are some of your goals for the future?
In 2017 I’ll be pretty busy as a singer with the new Lucky Bastardz album coming out and a new rock band with its debut album, and – of course – I will develop cover artworks for both. I’m living the life I’ve always dreamt of, and my goal is to live every single day at the fullest.

Do you have a philosophy behind your work?
As I said, my philosophy is simple: do what you love to do, and love what you do. I accept a work only if it moves me with passion, as I worked “for money only” in the past, and I know that it doesn’t work. For me, at last.

Any last words.
Thanks a lot to Bdp Metal, for giving me the opportunity to talk about my work and my passions. If you like my works, and think I could be of any help for you, just come to my facebook page “Titian Graphic Arts” and contact me.
Goodbye, and live to share!

Metal Illustrator: Interview with Natalia Osipa Drawings

Welcome to Metal Illustrator. This’s interview between Me and Natalia Osipa.

  by Natalia Osipa Drawings
Please give a brief introduction of yourself, your career and your work.
I was born in year 1998, my drawing adventure started as soon as I was 5 years old and I am still at the beginning of my journey. But also glad that I've started early.

When did realize you wanted to make a career out of illustrating?
At the age of 9 when I was still very little I've watched my older sister Agnieszka paint the most beautifull paintings, so I wanted to do the same as well, but life turned me more torwards pencils. Now I am glad because it relates more to the tattoo artist job I am planning to take on in the future.

What difficulties have you faced in transitioning into becoming a professional illustrator?
I think overcoming the lazyness was the hardest. It may seem insignificant but is very difficult to overcome once it becames a habit. I am hoping on overcoming it as a whole one day.

What do you like the most about illustrating?
The moment of transitioning to details. Once I get to making similarity as crisp as possible in persons/objects and materials. Unfortunetely sometimes I do not have enough time to finish up the way I intended in my mind and therefore I hate the finishing part. I am prone to make corrections as much as possible.

What do you like the least about it?
In my work I hate having to draw with a timeframe, rushing the work to meet a deadline is really not my thing, but oftenly is unavoidable.

Who are some of your main artistic inspirations and why?
My greatest art inspiration is my sister Agnieszka, that I mentioned earlier and her boyfriend Tomasz. They both made sure to show me how to work, helped with the difficulties. I've learned and was supported by them to strive for bettering myself.

What is the best advice you have ever received regarding your artwork and career?
That there is no way around work. Hard work is the only thing that will get you to your goal. I oftenly hear that I have talent, but I don't think it's true. Without the hours poured in I would not get where I am now.

What are some of your goals for the future?
I have plans of becoming a tattoo artist and with the right ammount of attitude and work I think I can make it.

Do you have a philosophy behind your work?
It's closest to the Benedictinian's monks philosophy of putting hours upon hours in each project.

Any last words.
My latest assignements proved to be difficult challenges but so much fun, I hope for everyone who'll take the same route that the'll find the fun within the difficulties and strenght to push trough on weakest moments. Thank you very much for interviewing me, it was a pleasure.

Reviews: While Sun Ends - Terminus

Terminus is 2nd Full Length Album from Italian Progressive Death Metal Band, While Sun Ends.

1st track, Tritogenia. This song rather melodic. Altough Progressive Death this song is catchy, and she’s singing like Angel (Clean Vocals) and Beast (Harsh Vocals). 2nd track, Cycles. It’s rather Djent, and her vocals rather like Angela Gossow. She’s singing excellently. Clean, Harsh, Djent, Atmospheric and Acoustic.

3rd track, Measure. This song is rather like Fallujah. Yeah, it’s Female version of Fallujah. 4th track, Sides. All kinds of sides, from harsh and clean, male and female, from distortion and atmospheric.

5th track, Seesaw. More Progressive, more slow and more clean vocals. This track more Easy than previous tracks. 6thtrack, View. It’s rather complex and Noisy cymbal. It’s catchy and easy listening. I’m very enjoyable this song.

7th track, Elevation. More Slow, more Clean Vocals and more Excellent. Yeah, more Progressive. 8th track, Synthesis. Breakdown parts on this song made this song rather Deathcore. Djent riffs, Noisy cymbal, Vaguely acuctic guitar lick and 99% Harsh Vocals.

Female Vocals is so Excellent, she sang in Clean and Harsh vocals perfectly. Djent and Acoustic parts on every tracks. And also, every tracks is catchy and easy listening although they’re Progressive Musicians.
Every tracks present the Great Composition and Great Harmonization.
Score: 100%
