Interview with Kosmos, Black Metal Band from France

Kosmos is Black Metal Band from France. Kosmos formed in 2010 in Drôme, France. Kosmos will release theire 4th Album titled "Le Voyage" in November 15th, 2016. Vincent Manzanera gave us some information. Check it out.

Tell us about concept of your upcoming album "Le Voyage" and What are Lyrical Themes of "Le Voyage"?
Well, the concept is very simple and very personnal. Actually "Le Voyage" deals with someone who wants to approach the truth. What truth will you ask me ? I wrote the music and the lyrics as shamanism started to interest me. But not only, I like to read philosophy, and lots of things I've read are similar with shamanism, so I got inspired from these books too. The most important for me was to insert a clear message in this album. The truth will always come when you're back to elements, animals, nature itself, because we come from all of them. The truth will always come from your spirituality, which is different from religion. This album is also like a door that opens on the invisible worlds some people experience for long time. It's a kind of connection they didn't loose, that's why I'm talking about a man who can travel to the invisble worlds in the song "Le Voyage", but manage to never go back because he doesn't want to, the world he gets to during his trip is, for him, the truth.
I wanted something strong, the principle of light. In nature there is no good or evil, but we have this power, that's why I want Kosmos' songs exude light that humans are able to provide.
So to answer clearly, the 2 main topics are the experience of the invisible worlds all round us, and light from humans, I mean wisdom, kindness, no matter about the word you use, but something pure, friendly, unexpected as we're used to watching and living violence all the time.

Interview with Kosmos, Black Metal Band from France, Interview with Kosmos Black Metal Band from France
How did you choose the cover artwork?
The artwork has been made by xOv entirely. We worked together as I told him what I could see in my mind, there was such a mess sometimes, but my friend could finally transform my visions in a superb artwork. I Thank him for his amazing work !

How were the songs written?
I've written all you can hear on this album, except "Mountains are Talking", this is a sample from the full lenght album "Mountains" composed by nicoxpros.
I've not been spending too much time to write this album, actually the writing was rather instinctive than very cogitated, I just planned one thing, avoid complexity but efficiency. Well, some songs like "Le Voyage" are old, I just arranged the way it doesn't sound too crazy but efficient in relation to the message behind this album. Well, all the songs have been composed naturally, without thinking too much as I said, they're what I wanted to hear from them. I started from a theme using my guitar and let my mind do the rest. Sometimes I tried to compose something more complex like on "Shamanic Visions", but I went back to the raw version. I'm glad I made the right choice, it sounds better this way.

How did the recording process go?
Pretty sporty ! I had to train myself a lot before going in studio for 3 whole days. On site I've played between 12 and 16 hours to be in time. It's a little stressful as you're face to face with yourself, I couldn't rely on other musicians, I had to record all instruments, except drums, on my own. But it's a nice experience, plus the guys I worked with were very friendly ! Talking of which, I thank them a lot !

What are your hope for "Le Voyage"?
My hope is to provide wellness to people who will listen to it, if at least one person feels good or better while listening to this album, it's ok I get it, it's superior than anything else. About Kosmos itslef, it would be nice it is seen as a solid one man band, with inspiration, with ideas. I have songs to record, inspiration to translate in music, it's just the very beginning as "Le Voyage" has the sound I expected, so I want to keep on. It's like a challenge, I want this album attract people about the topic and wonder what I mean, I want this album inspire people. I like to discuss, I like culture, so Kosmos is a project that provides ideas, a different outlook, so it's made to ask questions.

 What are your future plan?
I'm currently composing the next album, I confess it will be more cogitated, now I know what direction I want for Kosmos, I know what I want to talk about, so I can spend more time on how will sound the new songs.

Any last words?
Thank you for your interest in Kosmos, for this interview ! You do an amazing work ! Kosmos is still unsigned, and is interested in working a label.

Interview with Obliterated, Progressive Thrash Metal Band from Italy, Interview with Obliterated Progressive Thrash Metal Band from Italy

Interview with Obliterated, Progressive Thrash Metal Band from Italy

Obliterated is Progressive Thrash Metal Band from Pesaro, Marche, Italy. They're Stefano Viola - Vocals (lead) and Guitars, Adam Chahed - Drums, Dylan Benelli - Guitars, and Luca Renzi - Bass. Obliterated gave us some information. Check it out.

Tell us about Obliterated?
Obliterated formed in late 2012 under the name of Doubtful Existence by Stefano Viola as a solo project.  Few months later our previous lead guitarist Jurgen Xhaferi took part in the project and then, while recording our first EP "The Dreadful Meaning of Being" we changed the band’s name and completed our first, yet unstable, line-up. Our current line-up consists of Stefano Viola (guitars/vocals), Dylan Benelli (guitars), Luca Renzi (bass) and Adam Chahed (drums).

What are lyrical themes of Obliterated?
In our first EP, lyrics are about nihilism, existence, fears and doubts. "Fragments of Infinity", on the other hand, focus more on metaphysics, astronomy and philosophical subjects. Our full-length album is going to deal again with this themes.

What are your influences?
Well, we classify our music as Progressive Thrash Metal with Death influences. Our songwriting is influenced by bands such as Vektor, Voivod, early Pestilence, Death, Demolition Hammer and Annihilator, just to name a few.

How did you choose the cover artwork?
Stefano got the idea about the artwork concept. The circles have a metaphoric meaning: the outer one symbolizes the spiritual world, something we can't see, surrounding everything ever existed (the second cirle); the internal circle stands for Time; its missing part is the sphere in the center of the art, that symbolizes Man in his individuality, as necessary part of the whole temporal existence. It's pretty difficult to explain, there's kinda an Hegelian philosophy behind it.
Our friend Ludovico Cioffi from Nightland drew it for us.

How were the songs written?
Usually Stefano writes music and lyrics for every song, it's a homemade process most of the times. It may sound weird, but some of our most appreciated riffs were written quite randomly on Guitar Pro and then played for the first time on the guitar.

How did the recording process go?
It was absolutely terrible. We started recording "Fragments of Infinity" during february/march 2015 and it took more than a year to release it. During the making of the album we experienced lots of difficulties: the computer on which our track were recorded and the one where a friend of us was working on the first version of the artwork suddendly broke down, abd becoming unusable; the audio interface of the studio stopped working too; two members left the band before we even had finished recording everything; some months later we had to record the guitar tracks again because of some technical issues.
Maybe there's even more.

What are your future plan?
We'd just like to play shows and spread our music. Our full-length will come out in a couple of years, so we will try to soften the ground as much as possible.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
We're curious to play outside Italy, above all in Germany, Poland and Netherlands, the metal scene seems huge and so alive there. It's a bit early even to think about performing outside Europe though.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
Touring with other emerging Prog-Thrash band would be absolutely awesome! We'd obviously love to play with some of our favourite bands one day.

Any last words?
Thank you for the interview, check out our Facebook page for any further news! Keep on supporting underground metal.

Reviews: Polyptych - Defying the Metastasis

Polyptych is Progressive Blackened Death Metal Band from Chicago, America. They’re Scott Skopec - Guitar, Vocals Howard Ruan - Guitar Frank Lato - Bass, Synths, Vocals Troy Hoff – Drums. This’s our review about Polptych 3rd Album, Defying Metastatis.

1st track, Silent Discord. It’s instrumental Psychedelic Prog Metal song. 2ndtrack, Scars of the Modern Age. Progressive, Black, Doom and Death. All in one song, but riff is more Black Metal. 3rd track, Windswept Fragments. Sing like a Monster and Devil with Dark Atmosphere and Dark Guitar Solo. 4th track, Feral Mind, Abstract Tomb. Black riffs, Progressive composition and Monster vocals. And with some heavy bass lick, this song is groovy.

5th track, The Decadent's Mirror. It’s a little bit melodic black metal with Growl vocal. And the guitar solo in ending quite to hold captive. 6th track, Echoes. Fast black metal riffs and blackened doom riffs in the ending. Like the title, the music on this song is a little bit “echoes.” 7th track, Crimson Halls. Atmospheric and Drone Doom Riff during 126 seconds. Blackened Doom riff, Death Metal vocals and Melodic. Good Melodic Blackened Death Doom song. 8thtrack, Lexicon of Oppression. The oppression riffs and fury vocals. The music of oppression.

9th track, Coalescence. Started with mid-tempo music, after accoustic part from 01:38 until 01:51 music change to fast, melodic, shredding and blast. 10th track, Triumph of the Swine. Fast, Blasting, Accoustic (From 02:57 until 04:08), Death and Melodic. 11th track, Defying the Metastasis. A great ending. Started with accoustic guitar & blasting, and then followed with black metal riffs and shredding guitar solo.

A Great combination of Black Metal, a little bit Doom Metal and Death Metal, a Progressive Black Metal Riffs with Death Metal Vocals. Dark Riffs and Monster Vocals.
Score: 100%

4th track, Slowthorn. Just Easy Listening Psychedelic Stoner Metal song. Longer and Catchy. 5thtrack, Haunted. Yo Dawg, listen “Haunted” song titled ‘Haunted’ from Album ‘Haunted.’ This’s Longest track ending. Stoner, Catchy and Blues.

Reviews: Cwealm - Odes to no Hereafter

Cwealm, One Man Melodic Black Metal Band from Gothenburg, Sweden. This’s our review about their Full Length Debut Album.

1st track, Saktmörkret. Just instrumental opening song. Church Organ and Dark. 2nd track, Pale Maleficence. The guitar lick is a little bit progressive. Yeah, it’s Prog Meloblack song. 3rdtrack, Wither, Tainted Crown. Full blasting song, a little bit waltz and classical riff.

4th track, Serpent of Rebirth. With a little bit choir and classical piano is solo, this song it’s really beauty. Melodic and Classical. 5th track, Black Gall (Poisoned Arrows). Just a Meloblack with Dark Symphonic and Gloomy Choir. 6th track, Nidhuggs Hymn. From fast to mid-tempo & fast again and shredding solo.

7th track, The Transcendent One. I think the guitar riff on this song is darker than previous tracks. 8thtrack, Kadavret. This’s insane song, full blasting and madness. 9thtrack, Ödesdödens Kalk. It’s folk ending.

When Classical Music combined with Black Metal, this’s Odes to no Hereafter!!!!

Interview with Sacrimonia, Symphonic Black Metal Band from Poland

Sacrimonia is Symphonic Black Metal Band from Warsaw, Poland. They’re Filip Gawlak - Bass, F. S. - Drums, Jakub Zgorzelski - Guitars, and Kamila "Lasaira" Grabowska-Derlatka - Vocals. Lasaira and Jakub gave us some information. Check it out. J = Jakub and L = Lasaira.

Tell us about About Sacrimonia
J: The idea of the band goes back to 2014; that was the time I started writing the music for the EP. However, until the beginning of 2015 there were constant line-up changes, so all in all we might say that the band was actually established in February 2015.

L: It's a fantastic band and we are all good friends. It is also very special because we differ very hard from each other and all we do is a fusion of all spectrum of our colourful personalities. It's great to see how common hard work slowly bears fruit.

What are lyrical themes of Sacrimonia?
L: While writing lyrics I usually mix my own life experience with literature I read. On the "New World Ascension" CD lyrics strongly refer to Goethe's, and Bulhakov's works, like "Faust", "The Erlking" and "The Master and Margharita" but also slightly to other writers.

What are your Influences?
J: Our inspirations are quite varied. Apart from the pretty obvious ones, such as Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Cradle of Filth and other symphonic black metal bands, each of us is influenced by different music genres: classical/soundtrack music, old school hard rock and heavy metal, all sorts of gothic stuff, some acts labeled with "post" or "progressive" tags and many more.

L: Everything I listen to makes me inspired. As J. said, we do not only listen to black metal, and even not only metal. There are days I can go from Russian ballet through Gorillaz, TMR, finishing with all kinds of metal stuff. While writing lyrics and arranging Sacrimonia's vocals I am hugely inspired by all sort of post and DSBM things, such as Psychonaut 4 or Shining, but also by doom jazz like Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble. It's incredible how all music genres mix together and make you a unique musician and a unique band you want to be.

How did you choose the Cover artwork?
J: The artwork was designed  by Piotr Szafraniec and his Archart Design company, whereas the photo appearing in the inlay was taken by Aleksandra "Krucza" Burska. As far as the image on the cover is concerned, the idea of a decapitated statue popped up quite a long time ago, for the EP of my previous band actually. However, the EP was never finished and the band split up. The idea remained nevertheless, we thought it might fit the ambiance of the title, and when Piotr sent us his interpretation of the concept, we knew it was what we were looking for.

How were the songs written?
J: I started gathering ideas for the songs in January 2014, however they were evolving with line-up changes. Anyway, the line-up stabilised in February 2015 and the songs were finally finished in June 2015. That was also the moment when Kamila finished her lyrics.

L: Yes, I usually think before about the main themes of the song and when I have a ready music piece I write the lyrics and think about vocals. It's important for me to express the words I sing with the way I sing, so there is also a matter of suiting the vocal techniques to every small line of my lyrics.

How did the recording process go?
J: The recordings took place during the fall of 2015 at Invent-Sound Studio in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Our engineer and producer, Szymon "Sigmar" Grodzki, was a guitar player for the band Sammath Naur - in their early days they used to play symphonic black/death metal, so we knew he would "feel" our music, and that was very important for us. The recording itself was a lot of fun - Szymon is a cool guy, so the whole process was absolutely devoid of any stress. He also suggested a few ideas concerning the arrangement of the songs and, as we checked them out, they turned out to be better than ours, so we may say that he contributed to the musical side of the EP as well.

What are your future plan?
J: Basically we would like to do some touring and promote the EP. We are also gathering ideas for some new material, however we cannot estimate how long will it take us to finish it. We can promise though that we will not release anything we are not fully satisfied with, so we will deliver you the best music we can come up with, no matter how long it takes us.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
J: We would like to play everywhere people would want to see us, I guess there aren't any specific countries. As long as a gig in country X is possible (and makes sense) logistically, we would like to perform there.

L: In Europe I would be happy to play in Germany, France or Czech Republic. But I would also like to go with our music to other continents and maybe hit the american countries like USA, Canada and Mexico. It would be also a fantastic experience to play in Asia, for example South Korea, Japan or China.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
J: Naturally we would like to play alongside big black metal names, especially those representing more melodic approach to the genre. It would be cool to share the stage with bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Carach Angren, SepticFlesh or, since they are reuniting for a series of gigs, Emperor.

L: Oh yes, Carach Angren, SepticFlesh and Emperor. I would love to add Satyricon and Behemoth here. But my biggest dream (and the reason I started to play an instrument, sing and make my own music as a younger teenager) will always be Iron Maiden.

Any last words?
L: Thank you for the interview, it was a pleasure talking to you!

J: Yes, and thanks for the support!

Dark Tranquillity - Atoma (Album Lyrics)

Dark Tranquillity - Encircled Lyrics

I see myself in the bodies being carried out
I see myself in you when safety falls again
It broke something essential like nothing ever would
A promise to give, a promise to hold

This is not what I want you to hear right now
But our time is running out
So far removed from what you need to know
Words too hard to handle
Our time is running out
We're by demons encircled

Eroding away at reason
The bile of insecurity
This fear devoid of nuance
And fact resistant belief
I hold together what I can
I hold together what I know

These are just symptoms of experience and life
I wish I could postpone

It eats at our logic like nothing ever should
It claws at our humanity so that nothing can remain
This is the currency of faith and we are coming up short
The reality of failure, now upon us

Dark Tranquillity - Atoma Lyrics

I will not play along with things I find unfair
I will not mount defences against unjust attacks
This land was never given we built this on our own
Insanity dependant whether we rise or fall

Whether we rise or we fall
One for the night, one for uncontrolled

Hold your feet to the ground
To the end of our time for the rest of our lives
Hold your head on high
To the end of our time for the rest of our lives

Secretly I hope that nothing ever comes of this
And you are not alone wanting to come back
To a place where it won’t matter, just what side you’re on
It’s when our lines are graded, what’s underneath will overcome

What’s underneath will overcome
One for the night, one for the uncontrolled

Hold your feet to the ground
To the end of our time for the rest of our lives
Hold your head on high
To the end of our time for the rest of our lives

Now it’s time to stand up tall
One for the night, one for the uncontrolled

Hold your feet to the ground
To the end of our time for the rest of our lives
Hold your head on high
To the end of our time for the rest of our lives

Dark Tranquillity - Forward Momentum Lyrics

  We worry about echoes
While we being held back by the speed of light

This is the time of no regret
In a forward momentum race
We leave in our wake
What is broken, forgotten and gone

I squint my eyes
As if to make my sight extend a little further

This is the time of no regret
In a forward momentum race
We leave in our wake
What is broken and forgotten

The dream is nothing
Yet it drives us to the end
These words unforce our hand
Hold on, hold on

In fear of true deception
Our lives are being brought back down

This is the timeof no regret
In a forward momentum race
We leave in our wake
What is broken and forgotten

Dark Tranquillity - Neutrality Lyrics

Much like the tension built between force and will
Stray voltage wanders from neutral to earth
Lest we forget to forgive the signals get crossed
These two grounded objects on the opposite side of

Right or wrong where empathy was once
Is not the end - this is the reasoning

I call you out so take it once and for all
The weight of the world on you
I call you out to claim neutrality

We failed our own reality on reality's terms
The less we know the more we forge
What suits our single-minded goals

It all comes down to this
A reverse polarity
In opposites we see what unity must be
Forever taking down the man-made walls of strife
Forever taking them down

I call you out so take it once and for all
The weight of the world on you
I call you out to be accountable today tomorrow
I call you out

There's nothing like the friction sound
The slow burn of prolonged frustation
Wearing down the jagged edges
To fit within the margins
The fires spread throughout the night

It must now go down to where it can begin
Inside out I call you

Dark Tranquillity - Force of Hand Lyrics

This is not a failure, this is not an end
These are just symptoms of a trajectory descent
Further down the line you hide from the memories of unresolve
The struggle is lost

All this time of knowing
Letting piece by piece slip away
Cause when they're all against you
You fail

Don't you force my hand
Don't you force me

When the silence has spoken in his imminent storm
Taken to the nth degree where failure forms

Spiralling deception
Left the mindless drifting away
Cause when they're out to get you
You fail

All this time ends in nothing
These walls of doubt built into our minds
All this time signifying something
A victim without circumstance

All this time of knowing
Letting piece by piece slip away
Cause when they're all against you
You fail

Dark Tranquillity - Faithless by Default Lyrics

To ends unknown by means unworthy
To answer wishes, long dead and gone
Old empty promises, a just reward for the blind
Belief makes work for idle minds, we lost our way

The only dream that matters is the on you wake up from

Go

Onward to the singularity
Whatever they say, whatever they do just go
Turn on this unentity
Whatever they say, whatever they do just go
We are faithless by default

I call for a world where we are nothing
More than the sum of what we know
Are we to be geld hostage
By our tolerance for the intolerant
Then we've lost our way

To hope is to surrender in this series of defeats

A pain far too familiar
Denounce your savage self

Dark Tranquillity - The Pitiless Lyrics

Right now!
Right here!
We stand alone!

Against pitiless indifference
We stand alone!

Forever confounded by the burning margins
To get without context when into denial
Give in to ignorance when the world responds in kind
Put an end to the search and nullify the sense of life

Alone in silence!
Yes I am frightened and so are you
Against pitiless indifference
We stand alone!

Against the ever coming night!

So we step back to reveal a new perspective
When the allure of our gift is worn off
Not the least be curious when giants steps away
No going back, our time is running out

Alone in silence!
Yes I am frightened and so are you
Against pitiless indifference
We stand alone!

Must we resort to the end of our inquiry
For this to make sense? This to make sense!

Right here!
Right now!
We stand alone!

Give up or recount them, the days of your life
The truth was of essence when time was alive
There is no incentive to give in to the absurd
Reality and comfort, live forever to oppose

Forever opposed!

Alone in silence!
Yes I am frightened and so are you
Against pitiless indifference
We stand alone!

Dark Tranquillity - Our Proof of Life Lyrics

At a certain point it happens
Life becomes to real
And nothing can hold back
What is about to be

I don't know how close we need to get
To blind out the surroundings and focus on the real

I know you're gone
But this reality is crashing down on me
Crashing down to defeat all purpose
I know you're gone
I'm just not ready I'm just not done
I am ever in resistant disbelief

When raw emotion gets in
The way of our throughts and words
We pass so far beyond our breaking point

I don't know how far we need to be
From all that we don't want to see
To regain prespective

I know, yet I fail to find purpose and form
I know, but the truth just makes it harder

Dark Tranquillity - Clearing Skies Lyrics

Our backs can never carry these atrocities around
So we focus on what's safely within reach to market our concerns
Inside this time and place, there is nothing more you can be to me
Bring out your fear, bring out your death, bring out your pain

For now we lie to ourselves to live
Sorrow will find you

You're the only one who knows things I never say
And nothing can be done 'til skies are clear again
These are things we never talk about
So hear me out this time
I know one day this sorrow will find you

Let your heroes burn their crowns, you're better than this I know
This world can change the best of us
Sometimes for the worst
Sometimes for the ones we try to hold
The ones we hold on to
Bring out yout fear, bring out your death

Dark Tranquillity - When the World Screams Lyrics

Let the weakness set in this world I know
Days cannot hold me, I blur in between
Never fully engaged, the mind races between words
As far as I can get, away from it all

When indecision ends can life begin again

I am silence when the world screams out
I am escape when you reach out to me
I am panic
I am fear behind these walls that protect me
I am failure and resistance
I am lost where I belong
I am silence when the world screams

My insecurity extends to others talking about themselves
Fed with this poison of self righteous false confidence
It's in their eyes, it's in our lives

Set to the tune of darkness, this is one to hold
I cannot stop insanity from chasing down my thoughts
Linger in the mind for what now seems indefinite time
My mind is holding me down

Dark Tranquillity - Merciless Fate Lyrics

What if this image was taken
In an instant erased from the world
What if the truth is too far
And you reality can't cope with the distance
In the abstract a mind never challenged
Is the bearer of merciless fate

All you can feel is the loss of who you are
By force or by fire, by force or by flame
All you will know is the void of emptiness
By force or the flame 'til reason prevails

When the doubt starts to creep in your mind
And subverts the true cause of your ways
You must remain a witness of merciless fate

All that you see is a darkness
From the outside looking in
All you can sense is surface tension
From a distance grasping at straws

All you can feel is the loss of who you are
It's not about you, it's not about you
All you will know is the void of emptiness
By force of the flame, this merciless fate

Dark Tranquillity - Caves and Embers Lyrics

Despite what is out there burning
Our faces remain intact
We hear the screaming of the voiceless
Yet we are numb to the pain of others
We filter out the light
It never penetrates our blinding screens
We can take a stand

But in the end it all means nothing
We rage out but we are wasting away

From the roots below
To the boundless stars above
We are nothing at all

What separates us from the others
A difference in choices made
We take an insignificant stance
What would we do in a opinion vaccuum
When left unaccountable
So here we are far from the world
Just wasting away

Doing nothing being nothing
We are the favoured design
And we're wasting away

From the caves and embers
To the heart of the beyond
We are nothing at all

Here we are doing nothing
Being nothing
We are wasting away
