Interview with Lies of the Machine, Symphonic Metal Band from Hungary

Lies of the Machine is Steampunk Symphonic Metal from Budapest, Hungary. Line up: Dauda Judit - Clean vocals, Gubicza Klára - Keyboards and sampler, Csendőr Balázs – Guitar, Csóré Milán – Bass, Piskulic "Thor" Zoltán – Drums, and Buza "Don" Balázs - Voc, Harsh voc, general WTF on stage. Buza "Don" Balázs gave us some information about LOTM. Check it out.

Tell us about Lies of the Machine?
The Machine...well...a bunch of misfits, freaks and all manner of succubi banded together to form something new, something wicked, something different. It's been three years since the band's inception, and we went through some changes, call them bumps in the road if you will, but the core concept remained the same: to bring the psychocircus to town.

What are lyrical themes of Lies of the Machine?
It actually covers a lots of different areas from deffinitelynotsex through drinking whilst driving your airship till the hazards of handling eldritch artefacts touched by the Old Gods....you know, the usual! ;)

What are your influences?
To be honest, I can't even name all of them. Our music is an amalgam of all the members' personal style and influences, therefore quite diverse. To narrow it down, we gather a lot from slavic and middle-eastern folk music, symphonic and power metal trends along with some blues and funky.

Can you tell us about Metal Scene in Your Town?
Thankfully, we live in the capital city of Hungary, Budapest, therefore the metal scene is quite lively....it has some hotspots in other cities, but most of the events are centered here. the big bands are the same as everywhere, they make the big gigs, they play the big venues, they move the big crowds. The underground is much smaller, but still pretty much alive. We usually have around 100-150 people at the Lies Of The Machine shows, so we can't complain.

Who are Your Favorite Hungarian Metal Band?
Damn, hard question! :D
To be honest, it's pretty hard to chose a favorite. I really like bands who, just as we do in da Machine, think outside the box and try and make something unique, straying from the usual ropes of the genres. For example Rumproof (pirate metal with a folkish twist), Leecher (metal on fakking chellos with a female lead), The Wedding At The Slaughterhouse (playing classic cartoon theme songs in grindcore) or Niburta (who mix modern metalcore with balkanic folk music). If I had to chose  apersonal favorite, it would be Virrasztók with their electro-folk-metal, but all the aforementioned bands deserve a listen.

How were the songs written?
The songwriting process is actually pretty instinctic with the band.
- Walking home in a drunken stupor I come up with a batshit crazy concept
- I bring the concept to the band on the next rehearsal.
- Klári-Balázs-Milán start working on the tunes, Thor gives us the tempo, and I write the lyrics for juci @ I.
- We scrap the original crazy idea for an even crazier, and redo the lyrics and singing parts all together.
- After 20-30 versions the song is tested before a live, zombified audience.
If it all works out, a new song is born.

How did the recording process go?
It went really, really, realllllllllly slow :D We started recording early 2016. starting with the drums, followed by guitars, bass and keyboards. Most of the content were recorded individually in each person's private studios. The things we recorded together were the vocals and they were a blast! We even added some last-minute changes (like the goblin-like parts to the psychocircus) to make the songs even freakier.
Interview with Lies of the Machine, Symphonic Metal Band from Hungary, Interview with Lies of the Machine Symphonic Metal Band from Hungary
What does the future hold for Debut Album?
Well, we hope to get it to all corners of the world. we already have confirmation (and articles) the it had reached the US and Taiwan, but we still have a looooong way to go. It is actually a personal dream of mine, that I'd sit down in a metla bar in Sweden during my vacation, and hear our song played there. (Hey a man can dream, can't he?)

How do you think your music will progress in the future?
It depends in which aspect are you looking at it. we have a lot of ground to cover in experience, that's for sure. I myself can't even recognize my voice and my "singing" for example form three years before. In style, I really can't say. Our musical tone and style has been evolving during the years but I think with the release of FREAKSHOW we finally found our true voice, and maybe only need to polish it a bit.

Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in? Why?
Sure! We'd like to tour the US for example, see Vencie beach, our pals at Vernian Process and maybe try our luck in Las Vegas. We'd also like to visit Northern-Europe, and maybe hop over to Russia. Russia is pretty obvious (we like slavic beauties and vodka, and I hear the crowds are pretty sick there). Northern-Europe? I like the northern states, especially Sweden. :D

What bands would you like to play alongside?
Phew, as many as we can! Joking aside, we'd like to play together with some of or influencers like Avatar, Viza or Abney Park, but honestly we appriciate our underground pals just as much. What matters is that we have some fun (and drinks) along the way.

Any last words?
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

Best Power Metal Cover in August 2016

Power metal is a subgenre of heavy metal combining characteristics of traditional metal with speed metal, often within symphonic context. Generally, power metal is characterized by a more uplifting sound, instead of the heaviness and dissonance prevalent in styles such as doom metal and death metal. Power metal bands usually have anthem-like songs with fantasy-based subject matter and strong choruses, thus creating a theatrical, dramatic and emotionally "powerful" sound. Mosaeye Art&design, a Russian Metal Illustrator. Michael gave us some information about Him career as Illustrator.
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design

Please give a brief introduction of yourself, your career and your work.
My name is Michael. I work under Mosaeye nickname. I’ve been into illustration and design for seven years already. Most of my clients are from Russia, not long ago I started to work with bands from other countries.

Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
 By Mosaeye Art&design
When did realize you wanted to make a career out of illustrating?
In 2009 I was asked if I could do cover artwork for one nu-metal band… And I thought to myself “Then, why not?”

Metal Illustrator: Interview with MosaeyeBy Mosaeye Art&design
What difficulties have you faced in transitioning into becoming a professional illustrator?
I can’t tell I had to face any special difficulties during my career. Maybe sometimes there were some unthankful and rude clients. Or frankly crazy, but I should say it’s more like an advantage). It surely adds some fun).
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design
What do you like the most about illustrating?
It’s rather hard to point out something peculiar here. I like the process on the whole.
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design
What do you like the least about it?
I don't like to deal with stubborn idiots, with people who don’t even try to understand you. It happens rarely, but still it happens.
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design
You recently attended the Illustration Master Class, can you tell us a little about the experience?
I haven’t been to the Master Class.
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design How do you go about selecting your subject matter for personal work? What do you tend to gravitate towards?
It depends on my mood. More often I feel like leaning towards something dark, something hardly explainable. But of course it’s somewhat different with my commercial works.
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design Who are some of your main artistic inspirations and why?
There are many of them: God Machine, Dan Mumford, Beksinski, Vince Lock, Giger etc. I can’t give a complete list here. They all impress me on the whole.
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design What is the best advice you have ever received regarding your artwork and career?
Keep on working. Don’t listen to anyone).
Metal Illustrator: Interview with Mosaeye
By Mosaeye Art&design Do you have a philosophy behind your work? If not, then what are some of your goals for the future?
I’m still thinking over it and can’t give any certain answer. My goal for the future is to keep progressing as an artist.

Interview with Svovel, Progressive Symponic Metal Band form Norway

Svovel, Female Fronted Prog Symphonic Metal Band from Oslo Norway. Line Up: Vocals: Karine Jæger, Drums: Jonatan Ekblad Aagaard, Guitar: Håkon Eikeland, Bass: Robert de Graaff, and Keyboard: Jahn Erlend Holm.Karine Jæger and Jonatan Aagaard gave us some information about Svovel. Check it out.

Tell us about Svovel?
Svovel is a Norwegian symphonic metal band, combining heavy progressive guitars, drums and bass with operatic vocals and symphonic keyboard. The Svovel sound is characterized by a grand symphonic atmosphere with contrasting elements, as well as progressive tendencies and a heavy dose of madness.
«We like to challenge the the boundaries of the symphonic metal genre by working with a more original and unconventional approach to the genre.» - Lead singer, Karine Jæger
Our debut album «Fading» is the result of putting together songs where we try to both embrace and challenge the universe that is the symphonic metal genre, making «Fading» a very creative, individualized and personal album for us to create.

What are the lyrical themes of Svovel?
The lyrical themes vary but are usually influenced by the world of fantasy fiction as well as a way to illustrate personal experience and emotions. Our lyrics are often focused on conveying a specific situation or emotional development.
«Svovel’s lyrics contains a lot of grief and vulnerability, even madness, but also so much energy, determination and courage. I love the variation in every song we perform, that the topics of each song rarely are the same. It lets me explore new worlds and emotions through the music
- Lead singer, Karine Jæger

What are your influences?
Individually our influences vary from classical music to extreme metal. As a band, symphonic metal bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica has probably been our biggest influences from the beginning, putting together the pieces of our own sound.
«As I’m schooled in both classical and rhythmic singing I am very influenced by the voices of many genres. Artists and singers like Kate Bush, Sharon den Adel and Simone Simons, amongst others, has been and will continue to be a huge inspiration and influence to my own voice and performance.» Lead singer, Karine Jæger
Can you tell us about the metal scene in Oslo?
It’s a well known fact that Norwegian metal mostly exist outside Norwegian borders and doesn't get the recognition it deserves at home. The metal scene in Oslo is definitely affected by that, but is kept alive in the underground scene and on small pubs around the central area of the city. Unfortunately there’s not really much room for defining subgeneres and most bands gets labeled as metal, regardless of the subgenere.
«But no matter your taste, you'll find something - even if the venue is cramped and the sound terrible.» - Drummer, Jonatan Aagaard

Who are your favourite Norwegian metal band?
Dimmu Borgir, Sirenia, Enslaved and Tristania.

How were the songs written?
Our writing process for «Fading» has been partially individual as each of us has our own style of writing. We wrote the basic outline of a song and pitched it to the rest of the band, then letting them contribute to the music and add what was needed to make it a Svovel song.

How did the recording process go?
It went very well. We had so many amazing and talented people working with us to make «Fading» sound just like we wanted. We’re a band on a tight budget so we had to pull a lot of strings to make the process as cost-efficient as possible. We’re very thankful for all the support and help we’ve received throughout the journey of making «Fading».

What does the future hold for a new album?
We’re already working on new songs for our next album and have even played a few of them live. The next album is definitely going to be longer than «Fading», but for now that’s all we can say. There’s more to come!

What are your future plans?
We want to play more shows outside of Oslo, and maybe also outside of Norway. Our next album is being written as we speak and hopefully we’ll be ready for a new release by next summer!

Are there any countries you're interested in touring or performing in? Why?
We’ve talked a lot about touring in the future, and will for now probably focus our tour in the Western and Central Europe area, visiting countries like Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and Poland - places where the symphonic metal genre already is well established and where we’ll get to experience new audiences.

What bands would you like to play alongside?
To play alongside legendary bands in the symphonic metal genre would be an honor. If we dear dream; bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica would be on the top of our list. Though, we’ve experienced that by also playing alongside bands of different genres, we get to connect with an audience that would not otherwise have sought us out.

Any last words?
«Fading» is available for streaming and download on Spotify and iTunes! Find us on Facebook and Instagram to tell us what you think!

Detail from Warfist New Album, Metal to the Bone

Godz Ov War Productions is proud to present Warfist's highly anticipated second album, 'Metal to the Bone'. For over a decade now, this Polish power trio - Pavulon on skullcrushing, Wrath on bulldozer, and Mihu on vokills & chainsaw - the good metal fight, prolifically keeping the underground spirit alive across myriad splits, demos, and their debut EP, 'HellTyrant Rising', on Iron Bonehead in 2008. But it was their debut album, 2014's 'The Devil Lives in Grünberg', where Warfist introduced themselves with a nuclear-powered bang: like the perfect, most poisonous lovechild between Motörhead and Sodom, this first full-length killed with power. Alas, along comes 'Metal to the Bone' to crush posers further underfoot. Very fucking aptly titled, 'Metal to the Bone' explodes with a hard-charging, hard-partying attack of blackthrash-meets-rock 'n' roll. But whereas many of their contemporaries similarly offer obeisance to lust, filth, and sleaze, Warfist are truly living it here, and throttle the listener with an authenticity that's far from gimmicky "fun." Feel the full force of Warfist in your face!
